parallel universes

prada is such a fun brand.  they’ve teamed up with illustrator vahram muratyan, famous for his blog-turned-book paris vs. new york (which has been on my wish list i might add), to promote their spring/summer 2012 collection in something called “parallel universes”.

parallel universes is a virtual road paved with prada 2012 spring/summer men’s and women’s accessories, which highlights through rapid and intuitive movements two parallel universes that meet under the auspices of prada style.

for the campaign, a microsite was launched yesterday and prada’s really trying to improve its digital presence (the site’s mobile-optimized).  muratyan’s illustrations are animated as gif’s and juxtaposed with photos of the actual products each image features.

visit the microsite.  this one’s my favorite:

and now i love prada even more

because they had my #1 heartthrob (after boyfriend, of course) walk their fall/winter 2012 menswear show!  and also with other cutie, garrett hedlund!  other notable celebrities that walked include gary oldman (woo hoo!), willem dafoe, emile hirsch, jamie bell, and timothy roth.  i don’t think brody looks that great in the show…reminds me of his manolete character or a beatle, but i support him, nonetheless.  better he walk in a major fashion show than make another crappy movie i force boyfriend to watch with me, amiright?

i think garrett hedlund stole the show for me though.  not exactly professional but he’s so cute; he looks like he’s having so much fun.

if you care about the clothes (because i only care about the eye candy), check out the new york timescoverage.  and for more photos of the actors, check out the pursuitist.

from runway to mass market

did you like the new collections that are being unveiled at new york fashion week?  if you’re like me, broke that is, your best bet is to wait for things to trickle down to the mass market retailers.

and with runway shows being broadcasted in real time, you can expect to scoop up the hot designs faster than ever.  for spring/summer (s/s) and fall/winter (a/w), you should check stores in march and september respectively.

sure, we all know the mass retailers copy–i mean, have their own “inspired” pieces.  but learnvest noticed that certain retailers favor specific designers.  here’s the chart:

mass market retailers and the designers they love to knock-off

and the some of the most useful advice to take away from the article is:

“A final note: be discerning. Even though imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, try to replicate, not duplicate the runway looks. There are good knock-offs and then there are the bad. The bad attempt to be complete copies of the original but the good take the most important elements of the design and reinterpret it. So opt for elements of what drew you in to begin with. Was it the asymmetrical straps and ruffles of the Lanvin gown or the cut out detail on that Alexander Wang dress? Use that as a starting point of what you want to look for on the market.”
