well done, target…another designer collection i can get excited about. in other related news, target is getting rid of their go international collection. i’m really loving the ads so far. jason wu’s inspiration for the collection is this black cat named “milu”…isn’t she so mischievous?
ok, i could’ve sworn i saw a better scan of this yesterday but this is all i can find now…sorry.
here are the pieces i like so far:
to see the rest of the first look of the collection, with pricing, check out new york magazine’s the cut. and keep your eyes peeled for when the collection hits stores february 5th.
jason wu shot to fame at the young age of 29 when first lady michelle obama wore one of his gowns for her husband’s inauguration ball.
sketchtravel is a unique international charity art project. this red sketchbook was passed from one artist’s hand to another like an olympic torch in an artistic relay through 12 countries over 4 and half years.
well, i certainly can’t afford to bid on the original sketchbook (but i wish i could!). thankfully they’re publishing it for some regular folks like me…too bad it’s only on amazon france.
ETA: well, the auction ended at $96,200! gyea, too rich for my blood. owls productions is making a documentary about the project; the site www.sketchtravel.tv already has some videos of the contributing artists.
starting august 11th, banana republic stores in north america and online will be carrying the mad men capsule collection created by the show’s costume designer, janie bryant. but banana republic facebook fans can order from the collection one day earlier on august 10th.
the collection was supposed to coincide with the long-awaited return of mad men the television show on amc and even though the season premiere has been pushed back to next year, the 65-piece line for men and women is coming out anyway.
the women’s collection features trench coats, high-waisted skirts, 60’s-style dresses, and leopard print pumps; while the men’s collection includes everything from suits and pocket squares to money clips and knitted sweaters.
as much as i enjoy the 60’s style and mad men, i’m a little under whelmed with the line…what do you think? although i think i have to have the pussy-bow blouse because it looks a lot like the mango one i’ve been wanting since i saw it worn by olivia palermo:
i actually love everything about this outfit and love her style.
i’m pretty excited that my firm’s working on hotel missoni belek, antalya in turkey. we have some amazing designs and projects, but unfortunately i can’t afford to stay at any of these luxe hotels.
to give you an idea of what it might look like, here are photos from the other hotel missoni properties.
hotel missoni edinburgh
hotel missoni kuwait
hotel missoni belek, antalya isn’t slated to open until 2014. other locations in the works are oman (2013) and brazil (2014).
i normally find missoni clothing too loud and 70’s-looking but i’m loving how it looks as an interiors palette…especially the vibrant colors and patterns. now i’m really excited for the target collaboration.
and here’s a sneak peak to that!
over 400 products, priced all the way from $2.99 to $599.99…thankfully, most are supposed to be under $40. i’ll be counting the days until september 13th.
hello my (few) readers! sorry i’ve been mia…i was in chicago and nyc for the past week and a half (more updates on that later).
i feel like i post a lot about target’s go collection/designer collabs, and i swear i generally don’t care that much…but this one’s pretty big news.
the missoni and target collaboration will be the biggest one for target yet–with 400+ items, including women’s/men’s/kids’ clothing, bedding, dinner ware, and beyond. it’ll be available in the fall, from september 13th through october 22nd.
i’m not really a big fan of missoni but maybe i’ll pick up a scarf.
i remember hearing that target would re-release some of the previous go international designer collections a while ago. looks like the dust has settled–34 dresses from 17 go international designer collaborations all priced under $50 will be hitting stores and online march 13th. they’ll be available through april 10th, or until the more likely scenario–they’ll sell out. i like the idea of go international and i love target, but i have to admit that there haven’t been too many designer collections that have wowed me. i think h&m’s collaborations usually look better, although some of them are pretty expensive (lanvin anyone?). there were some that i missed out on the first time around that i may pick up this time though.
these are personal favorites that i’ll be mulling over:
i don’t remember what the price points were like for the collections previously…but the prices aren’t too bad this time around. i remember the zac posen pieces i purchased were pretty expensive initially (the dresses were like $100, but i got them on sale/clearance for $40-$70).
i have only purchased from the zac posen collection. most of the go international designs have failed to impress me and i had not heard of a lot of the designers. i think target could benefit from better models, photography, and advertising/marketing for these though…they do deserve the attention.
to see all 34 pieces from luella bartley, tara jarmon, paul & joe, behnaz sarafpour, proenza schouler, libertine, alice temperley, erin fetherston, jovovich-hawk, rogan, richard chai, jonathan saunders, thakoon, tracy feith, rodarte, zac posen, and tucker, check out the coverage at racked. it includes the price points too.
these are what i bought last time:
if you know me, you know i love daft punk. the past year or 2 has been like daft punk mania because of kanye west’s “stronger”, dj hero, tron: legacy, etc. there are all kinds of daft punk-related merchandise out there. adding to all this, coca-cola (the beverage of choice for many) has collaborated with the french duo for limited edition coke bottles. the set’s called “daft punk x coca-cola club coke” and will be sold at clubs in france and as a collector’s box at colette in paris. they’ll be released march 2011, when the www.daftcoke.com site goes live.
below is the teaser image. as you can see, the bottles resemble the famous gold and silver helmets donned by guy-manuel de homem-christo and thomas bangalter to assume anonymity. i like guy-manuel’s helmet more so it’s no surprise that i prefer the gold bottle.
i personally think the design is too simplistic and lacking. it’s nice that they kept it refined and sophisticated but the design isn’t very special for a collaboration. i do like the matte metallic finish though. and being the sucker i am, i still want a set…so who’s going to france after march and wants to pick up a set for me..??
i have to agree with this comment from stereogum–“I preferred Daft Punk when they made awesome albums instead of sodas, toys, and movie appearances.”
i did somewhat recently acquire these medicom be@rbrick figures:
these are the tron: legacy edition…they also have kubrick (non-bear) and other editions (non-tron). i was lucky enough to score guy-manuel (left) out of 2 blind boxes. these are in the artist 21 series; boyfriend scored batman out of his 2 so we got very lucky. i had to purchase thomas (right) off ebay. they’re now sitting comfortably on my monitors at work.
other daft punk references in the work space: the tron: legacy soundtrack flier i picked up at the tron night special screening and both dj’s in papercraft form, crafted and gifted by the awesome boyfriend.
