banana republic’s complete mad men collection

starting august 11th, banana republic stores in north america and online will be carrying the mad men capsule collection created by the show’s costume designer, janie bryant.  but banana republic facebook fans can order from the collection one day earlier on august 10th.

the collection was supposed to coincide with the long-awaited return of mad men the television show on amc and even though the season premiere has been pushed back to next year, the 65-piece line for men and women is coming out anyway.

the women’s collection features trench coats, high-waisted skirts, 60’s-style dresses, and leopard print pumps; while the men’s collection includes everything from suits and pocket squares to money clips and knitted sweaters.

as much as i enjoy the 60’s style and mad men, i’m a little under whelmed with the line…what do you think?  although i think i have to have the pussy-bow blouse because it looks a lot like the mango one i’ve been wanting since i saw it worn by olivia palermo:

i actually love everything about this outfit and love her style.

a current affair

i bought tickets to a current affair off gilt city for $5/person (it’s normally $10).  a current affair is a pop-up vintage marketplace; it describes itself as a unique shopping event featuring the best vintage dealers from la and beyond.  it took place april 2-3 in the cooper design space building in downtown la.

i also went to the melrose trading post the following day.  the melrose trading post is a weekly flea market that’s held on sundays at fairfax high school.  admission is $2 but they offer a $1 admission coupon on their website.

yes, the melrose trading post is much cheaper but i felt the offerings at a current affair were much better.  i was less wary about whether the designer items being sold were authentic or not and it was a nice atmosphere with free drinks sponsored by izze, smartwater, and pama.  with only 25 vendors, it didn’t take me too long to browse through just about every shop, sip on a drink, and buy some items.  even though i negotiated the prices, i still spent quite a pretty penny.  fortunately for my wallet, i didn’t buy anything at the melrose trading post.  all in all, i’m quite pleased with my purchases.  even though they were pricey, they’re clean, in good condition, and unique.

i went home prepared for spring and summer: a rainbow raffia purse, seafoam green enamel and gold bracelet, and vintage christian dior silk scarf.  it’s hard for me to find bracelets that fit my wrist so i’m glad this one fits.  the scarf needs to be steamed but is in otherwise perfect condition (may i, jamy?).
