it’s funny how azzedine alaïa wasn’t even mentioned when everyone said who would replace john galliano at dior. (btw, yes, my blog post got swept into that wave of misinformation).
well, not only was he offered the position…he turned it down! the cut has some good reasons behind his decision.
alaïa is known for taking a stand against the demanding nature of the fashion cycle. instead, choosing to hold shows only when he’s ready…not because schedule dictates.
he’s also said in the past that richemont, which partially owns alaïa, leaves him alone. and you know that wouldn’t happen with bernard anault, ceo of lvmh, which owns dior. anault’s been known to micromanage galliano’s showroom, all the way down to product lines/offerings and ad campaigns.
